Team building doesn't have to be boring. No forced trust exercises or endless meetings in conference rooms. What if your team could laugh, move, and learn something completely new β in under two hours? Welcome to Cubania's salsa team building.
Why dancing works as team building
Dancing is one of the most effective forms of team building, and there's scientific evidence to back it up:
Building trust
In salsa, you dance with a partner. You literally have to trust someone β the leader gives direction, the follower interprets. This creates a direct, physical form of trust that no PowerPoint presentation can match.Improving communication
Salsa is non-verbal communication in its purest form. You learn to give and receive signals, anticipate the other person, and collaborate without words. Skills that are directly transferable to the workplace.Laughing and letting go
Hardly anyone on your team has experience with salsa. That means everyone β from the CEO to the intern β is in the same boat. The laughter that erupts when your boss attempts a turn for the first time is priceless. The great equaliser
On the dance floor, there's no hierarchy. The director might have two left feet while the receptionist turns out to be a natural. Salsa breaks the fixed patterns of the office.Energy and endorphins
After an hour of dancing, your team feels more energetic, positive, and connected. Movement stimulates the production of endorphins β the happiness hormone. What does a salsa workshop look like?
Warm-up (10-15 min)
Light movement exercises to Latin American music. Just waking up the body and loosening the hips.Basic steps (15-20 min)
Everyone learns the basic step of Cuban salsa. Step by step, at a relaxed pace.Partner rotation (15-20 min)
Now it gets social. Everyone dances with everyone, learning simple figures and regularly switching partners.Rueda de Casino (15-20 min)
The highlight: the entire team dances in one big circle. On command from the cantante, they execute figures and switch partners. Chaotic, hilarious, and absolutely bonding.Closing (5-10 min)
